Ex KP Sports Minister convicted in fake degree case

PESHAWAR: A local court here on Thursday sentenced former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sports minister Syed Aqil Shah to one year in prison and a fine of Rs 3,000 for contesting election 2008 on fake bachelor degree.District and Sessions Judge, Peshawar, Shaiber Khan after hearing arguments, examining facts and evidence on record, convicted the former minister by awarding one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3000 for contesting general election 2008 on fake bachelor degree.The Court when took up the case this morning had reserved the judgement till 1:00 pm.After announcement of the sentence, the police took him into custody from the court room and shifted to Central Jail Peshawar.Aqil Shah was elected on ANP ticket from PF-4 Peshawar in 2008 election.On Tuesday last, the division bench of Peshawar High Court comprising Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Abdul Latif Khan had directed the District and Sessions Judge, Peshawar to conclude the trial till April 4 in a complaint filed by Regional Election Commissioner against Syed Aqil Shah about submission of fake graduation degree for participating in 2008 elections.Earlier, the district and sessions judge had indicted Aqil Shah on November 1 over a complaint filed by Regional Election Commissioner who...
