PPP-led Sindh govt accused of ignoring education sector

MOHAMMAD BILAL TAHIR KARACHI: The recently dissolved Pakistan People’s Party-led Sindh government has completely ignored education sector during its 5-year tenure, as no major initiative was taken to improve education standard in public sector colleges especially in Karachi. The education sector, which is supposed to be the only way to enlighten the nation, remained under stiff financial pressure during the tenure of last government as no major project was initiated despite significant budget allocations, raising serious transparency issues.Sources said that the infrastructure of inter-degree colleges were giving a pathetic look as no renovation/construction work was carried out by the last provincial regime despite having budgetary allocations every year.“The renovation/repairing work of the building of Sindh Muslim (SM) Arts and Commerce College was started two years ago but could not be completed due to least interest showed by the concerned authorities,” an official at the college said, adding that the concerned department has been intimated after regular intervals but no heed was paid towards the request of college administration in this regard.He said that the college had not proper sitting arrangements in the lecturer rooms, besides sewerage system at the facility was also choked.
