Ordinance to be introduced for prevention of Thalassemia in Sindh

KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan on Wednesday said the province will soon have a law for prevention of Thalassemia, a genetic disorder that remains incurable for the suffering children.Addressing a ceremony organized by Make A Wish Foundation, at the Governor House, for children suffering from Thalassemia, Cancer and other blood related diseases, he said an ordinance will be enforced in the province for elimination of Thalassemia virus."As a first step all marriage contracts (nikahnamas) would have a mandatory column showing the health status of the couples, with specific reference to prevalence of the virus," he said,The Sindh Governor appreciated the organizers of the ceremony for fulfilling the wish of the children suffering from terminal diseases, with specific reference to the fact that they may be in the last stage of their ailment.Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan expressed his heart felt sympathies with the parents of these children and said a general realization is required about their plight and suffering.On the occasion the Sindh Governor, in accordance to the wishes of the 11 selected children, presented them with gifts of their choice besides ensuring that they also meet personalities of their choice.Copyright APP (Associated Press of Pakistan),...
