Political parties urged to award general ticket to women

QUETTA: The speakers urged all political parties to award ticket to women on general seats instead women reserved seats in elections 2013 if they are sincere in their claim of equal rights of men and women and gender development.This was said in a dialogue on gender development organized by non-governmental organization Inter-Media here on Tuesday.Expressing his views, Senior Journalist and analyst, Saleem Shahid said: "It will be taken as discrimination of the senior political leadership against women as they have established women wings in their parties instead bringing them in mainstream politics and awarding them party tickets on general seats to contest general elections".He said that several political parties claim in their manifestoes and media statements that they were in favor of equal rights of men and women adding that but practically, there is no truth in their claims as they avoid to award party ticket to women on general seats to participate in general elections."Our political leadership belonging to all provinces will have to end hypocrisy, insincerity and duality in their ranks if they are sincere in resolving years-long woes and problems of women," Shahid said.He emphasized the need to educate girls as it would help in ending in...
