KMC staff ordered to expedite fumigation and combat dengue in Karachi

KARACHI: Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, the Administrator for Karachi Metropolitan has asked the concerned staff to expedite the ongoing fumigation in the city so as to counter growing incidents of dengue fever in the city.Addressing a meeting on Monday to review arrangements to counter any possible outbreak of monsoon related diseases in the city, during fast approaching rainy season, he said priority must be given to the low lying areas."There is every chance of malaria outbreak and further increase in the number of dengue fever cases after the rains and therefore fumigation must continue to be done during pre as well as post monsoons in the city," he said.The KMC Administrator said that a plan must be made for anti- insecticidal sprays complimented by proper cleaning of rain drains across the city.He said water must not be allowed to stand in any part of the city and citizens should be sensitized about their role to prevent the two main diseases, usually registered in monsoons and post monsoons.On the occasion Senior Director, Municipal Services, KMC, Masood Alam informed the meeting that special spray teams have been constituted to tackle the challenges of dengue fever and malaria.Insecticides, he said are already being...
