LHC restrains authority to confiscate amnesty scheme car

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Thursday restrained deputy collector, Anti-Smuggling Organization, MCC, Lahore from confiscating a vehicle imported under car amnesty scheme-2013.Justice Shahzada Mazhar passed the orders on a petition filed by Irshad Ali Rashid impleading the Finance Ministry, director general Federal Board of Revenue and deputy director, Anti-Smuggling Organization, Lahore.Earlier, the petitioner-counsel submitted before the court that he purchased premio car which was registered after paying a sum Rs 924,200 in the government treasury under car amnesty scheme-2013.He said 50,000 persons had availed the facility and got transferred their vehicle under the scheme whereas the government also received Rs 10 billion in this regard.However, an IHC single bench suspended the notification of car amnesty scheme on a petition challenging it, he added.He submitted that the respondent deputy director, anti smuggling organization was adamant to confiscate the vehicle owned by him under grab of the IHC decision. He pleaded the court to restrain respondents from confiscating his vehicle.The court after hearing the arguments restrained respondent from confiscating the vehicle.The court also issued notices to the respondents for July 24 and sought reply.Copyright APP (Associated Press of Pakistan), 2013
