SC seeks ANF's three-year achievements record

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to submit three years record pertaining to the achievements of the department. The directions were issued by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur Rehman during the hearing of ANF case. During the course of proceeding, Director Enforcement ANF Javaid Akhtar submitted a progress report of curbing the menace of smuggling throughout the country by the ANF. He apprised the court that it was very difficult to get full command over smuggling of narcotics as the border with the neighboring country of Afghanistan was very rough and tough. Akthar alleged that it was impossible for a single country to control narcotics movement at its own without getting help from its neighbors. The Chief Justice while rejecting the progress report remarked that there was no tangible efforts by the ANF as the force lacked sincerity and will to overcome smuggling.
