SC disposes of 272 cases in one week

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 272 cases whereas 215 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 25th May 2013 to Friday 31st May. The backlog remains 19125.The backlog in the apex Court on 25th May 2013 was 19182 cases. As 215 new cases were instituted during the said period, the progressive total of pending cases on 31st May 2013 came to 19397 cases.Out of these, 272 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 27th May to Friday 31st May. The backlog on 31st May remains 19125 cases.The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registry Peshawar to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.The Chief Justice and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog.Copyright APP (Associated Press of Pakistan), 2013
