Lawyers boycott courts

KARACHI: As announced earlier, the lawyer community boycotted the courts on Monday in protest against unlawful attitude of Gen Musharraf’s supporters towards lawyers. The Sindh Bar Council (SBC) had on Saturday announced that legal fraternity would boycott legal proceedings throughout the province on Monday. The legal proceedings at all courts remained suspended as lawyers stayed away from courts.Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) in a statement released on Monday condemned conduct of General Musharraf’s (Retd) supporters and his security squad, who showed disrespected behavior to lawyer during Musharraf’s recent appearance before the court.The meeting was attended by the SHCBA’s president Mustafa Lakhani and other members of the SHCBA.The meeting said that lawyers were held hostages by the law enforcers and they were barred from entering court rooms. It condemned the act of the paramilitary forces who allegedly thrashed a lawyer Tajammul Lodhi, who had hurled shoe at former military dictator.The meeting called upon the Chief Justice of SHC to take stern action rangers and security squad of the Musharraf who created commotion like situation in the court premises.Copyright PPI (Pakistan Press International), 2012
