City generates 68pc revenue for the country: KCCI chief

KARACHI: The metropolis is the industrial and commercial hub of the country which generates 68 percent revenue for the national exchequer.This was stated by President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Muhammad Haroon Agar.He was talking to Senior Vice-President of International Container Terminal Service, Christian R. Gongalez, who visited the Chamber on Friday.Agar pointed out that the KCCI is the Chamber of the pragmatic business and industrial community of Karachi which also handles 98 percent cargo.He added that the transshipment facilities offered by the container terminals should be economical and having nominal impact on the cost of doing business.Agar stated that the cost of doing business is often inclined to the high due to exorbitant charges shipping companies receive in different heads which should be reasonable as per services offered.He apprised that KCCI having over 18,000 members plays a vital role in the economy of the country and is quite active in resolving trade issues faced by the business community in various sectors.Discussing the current management and operations on port terminals, Agar stated that every possible effort was being made to function more effectively and efficiently and assured his best cooperation and support in this regard.Vice President KCCI, Nasir...
